Giving back

Causes.

If you want to know what I truly value, follow where I give my time and resources when no one is asking me to. Giving back isn’t a line item for me — it’s the point. These are the causes closest to my heart.

Martha’s Table

It starts here. Martha’s Table, in Washington, D.C., fed me, tutored me, and quietly decided my future was worth investing in when my circumstances said otherwise. Everything I do in this space is an attempt to be, for someone else, what they were for me. If you give nowhere else, give here.

Opportunity for young people

A child’s ZIP code should never be their ceiling. I put my time and resources behind the schools, programs, and mentors working to hand young people the access, information, and belief that opportunity actually requires — the doors most of them were never handed a key to.

Cancer research

Cancer research will always have my support. I know what a single breakthrough can mean — to a person, and to everyone who loves them — and I believe it’s some of the most important work being done anywhere.

Community

And the quiet, everyday work of community — the neighbors, churches, and local organizations that hold a place together. I’ve staked my life on the belief that the biggest changes are built out of the smallest, most local acts.

If any of these move you, I’d be honored to have you join me. And if you lead or know of an organization doing this work well, tell me — I’m always looking for the next door worth holding open.
